The Homeless Garden Project, a non-profit providing training and transitional employment for homeless individuals within an organic farm and floral design workshop, seeks a dynamic, experienced development professional to take charge of planning and implementing fundraising activities.

With an annual operating budget of around $425,000, the Project serves approximately 25 homeless and very low-income people each year in two horticultural training programs. The men and women in the Natural Bridges Farm program learn to grow and market organic produce, and fresh cut flowers that are made into bouquets. Women’s Organic Flower Enterprise trainees learn to grow, harvest and dry a variety of flowers, create beautiful dried floral arrangements, and produce hand-dipped beeswax candles. Our products are available at our retail store and local markets. Self-generated income makes up approximately one-quarter of our budget.

The Project currently operates on farmland and in workshop and office space on loan by a local builder and by the City of Santa Cruz, respectively. However, we are planning a move in the near future, to a permanent 9.5-acre site in the Pogonip, open space owned by the City of Santa Cruz.

The move offers an exciting challenge to the Board and staff. The candidate selected will work closely with the Board on fund development activities that will ensure the financial stability of current programs and plan and implement a capital campaign for our move to the Pogonip.
