Workday Leadership Training
Are you interested in learning more about farming? Have you been coming out to the farm for awhile and want to step up your involvement?
Beginning May 21st, we will be holding our first Workday Leader Training to train new and continuing Workday Leaders.
Workday Leaders help our crew at the Homeless Garden Project plan larger and more productive workdays with large groups of volunteers. We encourage leadership in all volunteers, but designated Workday Leaders are asked to commit toan ongoing role and become a more experienced member of the farming team. You will help facilitate the involvement ofother volunteers from diverse backgrounds and ensure that workdays run smoothly. You will also participate in periodic trainings to build your leadership and agricultural skills.
Date: Saturday May 21, 2011
Time: 10-2pm
Location: Natural Bridges Farm on Shaffer Road Cross St.: Delaware St, Santa Cruz, CA 95060 Map
Workday Leader Class: Saturday May 21st 10-2pm
The class will give you the skills needed to run all kinds of farm tasks, and be conscious ambassadors of our community.
Topics include volunteer management & orientation, flower harvest and drying processes, tools and safety, soil fertility, integrated pest management, invasive crop management, greenhouse operations, composting and much more.
The Workday Leaders are the core group of volunteers who help us run workdays. While undesignated, workday leaders have been a part of the Homeless Garden Project from the very beginning and are a key aspect of how we seek to empower the community.
The commitments of a workday leader are simple: attend and help facilitate a workday at least twice a month on either Thursdays or Fridays.
Starting this year, we seek to get the Workday Leaders more organized than ever and provide them with top-notch training that will help them do their job even better. We also hope to expand the group, and bring up a whole new crop of people who are ready to facilitate our community.
If you think that becoming a Workday Leader is right for you, contact kellym@homelessgardenproject.org to register and for more details.
